If I wasn’t a developer, I’d probably try CAD or maybe land surveying.

The perpetual fear of missing out. The hedge. The "just in case". The "if this doesn't work."

A life of half measures and noncommittal "maybes" because things have become so uncertain, our maybes are really a way for us to softly whisper "no" to the things. we. cannot. have.

Thats why some people start heroin. Their lives are 100% worse (maybe more), but at least they don't fear a thing.

Land surveying is cool. I hear you get to go for occasional short walks.

On the plus side, all the downsides are about the same, which means every option is either equally shit, or more optimistically, equally good.

@Wisecrack land surveying would be cool as I would get to travel around a bit. The downside would be working outdoors in the winter. As for being a guitarist, I found out quickly nobody makes hardly any money, and I got burned out. Writing code may not be as fun, but it's not that hard and it's steady. Can also be rewarding in its own way sometimes too.
