Depreciated sounds like the French equivalent word, "déprécié"

Me too, been reading "deprecated" as "depreciated" for almost 3 years up to last year when my pal mentioned that I am reading it wrongπŸ˜‚

I read this "I always read depreciated as depreciated". Took me a second to realize that those were differnet words.

    Guess I'm one of today's lucky 10,000!

Actually depreciated sounds like it would be the opposite of appreciated, which would be quite appropriate
"We dont appreciate using this method anymore, so it is depreciated now" :D

@iridic that is why I thought it was πŸ˜…

"Depreciate" is a real word which describes how things become worth less over time. So you sell your shiny iPhone for less than you paid for it 2 years later because it has depreciated in value. "Deprecated" is, obviously, a totally different thing #englishlessons

@CrankyOldDev I know.... Sorry mate don't think anyone needed the explanation... I mean I explain that I understand there's a difference in the OP

And it's not like depreciation couldn't be used for obsolete functions...

@FitzSuperUser Whoops. Sorry. Hope no-one felt patronised. I know devRant is full of non-English speakers so it was a genuine attempt to be helpful... not mansplaining.

@CrankyOldDev I grew up in Northampton mate πŸ˜… I know you didn't mean anything by it but I've lived in England all my life just something I didn't pick up because I was never fully trained as a dev
