I will be SO screwed if this happens for real. I live and die by StackOverflow when I get into a jam or cannot remember how to do a thing. Asking my boss to let me expense the ability to copy and paste code would be a total employment killer for me.

    Dev tools for the win!

Or I will simply wget the page

Come on... There was free code exchange before stack overflow, there will be Free code exchange after.

How long does it take to build another stack overflow? Minutes?

@burningcandle Exactly! Understanding community is all you need for this to run. I say instant chats run them at more crazy speeds.

I always retype code from SO rather than copying unless it's 1-4 lines and I can understand it at a glance. Saves me a ton of debugging and I can usually think about an improvement (more relevant variable names if nothing else) in the process.

Well Google pulls that shit sometimes in Google docs for me, they want me to install their plugin. Self hosting is the way to go

I better start looking for another career then.

Stack overflow has been long dead for JS devs.

@asgs Another possible way is to use the notion chrome extension to copy the whole page into notion as a notion page

If the text is displayed in my browser, it is already in my computer and if it is in my computer I am not going to pay. There’s always a way.

If this happens, it will most likely be as bypassable as Medium's paywall.

@burningcandle Right on, I even found a rescue boat while scrolling through comments of an article about the SO sale: https://codidact.org/
It looks great, but should be even better when more known

Just curl the content from the URL, done.
