A good developer is someone who gets the job done, maybe super focused, or super wide skills. Either way same rule applies.

C0D4669024ySo, having 1 explicit skill and only being able to write software with only 1 language makes you a "betterer" dev then someone who can open virtually any project, written in pretty much any language and get to work on it.
This is what this all boils down to. 🤷♂️
But I'll walk my peasant ass out of here, since I haven't had enough coffee to play nicely with the superior overlords of 1 today. -
h3rp1d3v5194yHow do frontend devs design data layer without reading backend controller though? Do people just call shit tons of controllers without optimizing res load and the number of database access?

He’s jealous of people who are good at multiple things and smart enough to learn new things without being one trick ponies. Tired of this “full stack means sucks at everything” garbage.
-
nitnip18134yThe hell? Full-stack is not even something you "choose" to specialize in. It's a loosely defined term used by companies to combine frontend developer, backend developer and sometimes even devops in a single position so they can then pay 1 person to do the job usually done by 2, 3 people.
-
Crost40744y@nitnip I don't care what the business is thinking in that way. I want to build cool stuff, not just get a paycheck. I'd be full-stack in my own company. Why learn just enough to be useless without relying on a bunch of people for simple tasks?
-
nitnip18134y@craig939393 I'm not saying you don't need to learn other stuff on your own.
I just find it ridiculous that an employee would try to diminish someone because of a position that is a result of management being weasels. "Fullstack" being a ripoff title should be common knowledge at this point. -
Crost40744y@nitnip I see your point. My opinion is that a front end only Dev who has never done any backend work is very strange. They might be very good but I doubt it because they must be severely limited in how much they can do in their own projects.
Backend it's not really like that, instead I just wonder why they don't want to be able to create a full product. I would hate to feel I can't actually create something.

Today I was told that full stack is another name for a shit developer who wont be able to develop anything good because they aren't focused on one skill.
But it was by a person who claims to like OOP but doesn't know the 4 principles, SOLID, GoF, or DDD. So I take it with salt. But he claims his entire company follows this philosophy.
I think that some developers just decide that they're hot shit and refuse to talk about any other skills they don't know about since they must not be needed if they don't know them. Code is code.
