Isn't the point of the next retro to review the last sprint and compare it to the one prior. Wtf is a retro of retros? Comparing the last month / quarter of retros and plotting progress on a timeline?

I had one to improve the value to the team that the retro has. What happened was the retros had someone attending that was a bit too high in the food chain. So the retros became about back pats, brave faces, and showing no weakness.

People were afraid to discuss how fucked up things got in front of an exec that could dissolve the team or intervene suddenly.
