So, I've had my final interview that was 1.5 hours long and I don't know how it really was lol

Was it engaging for both sides?

If yes, that's a good sign.

Most bad interviews are over after about 45 minutes at most.

@sariel it was very engaging on both sides.

They kept asking interesting but also very though questions where I had to really decide what words to use lol.

They asked me about how I started coding and my projects.
Then how I deal with stressful situations.
I probably talked about myself as if it was a story for more than 30 minutes

Then I asked a lot of company culture related questions and at some points they had to pause and think about their words themselves haha

They asked me why they should pick me and I went full cocky and said that I'm the best option for them. I bring a lot of experience, have a drivers license and know how to lead a team (I backed these claims with examples from my past)

Also the interview did start half an hour later than we agreed upon due to my bus driver and I had to run 7 kilometers which I told them and they were impressed lol

After the interview (after the HR and other leader left), I've talked with my possible future lead dev about our hobbies and stories for a long time.

I would say that it went well, but the HR felt like she was hiding her real opinions. Dunno there was this standard "always laughing" poker face

@-ANGRY-STUDENT- that's HR and the general interview process.

Sounds like at the very least you could be in the lead for the position.

Is this the first or second interview with them?
  • 2
    @sariel I see.

This was the second and final interview.

Sounds like you did good then! Good luck in hearing good news!

@-ANGRY-STUDENT- 1.5 hours long is evident that they liked you and wanted to know more about you.

If you weren't good or they didn't like you, they wouldn't spend so much time with you (anyone with anyone for that matter).

I am excited for a good news on Friday :)

@-ANGRY-STUDENT- also I think they tested you for culture fit means you cleared hiring manager and technical rounds.

HR was poker face because HRs try to act diplomatically to hire a candidate for as low as they can.

Do your research well on salary for market standards/average and negotiate well.

Also, telling your life story and backing leadership claims with examples was a very good thing you did.

    All green signs so far.

    @Floydimus question:
They asked me if I applied somewhere else and how many nos and open interviews I have still left.

I said that next week I have two more interviews. Was this a bad answer from me?

Edit: They also said that they will give an answer if I made it or not next week because of these mentioned interviews.

    @-ANGRY-STUDENT- super bad.

Never tell a potential employer that you are actively hunting or have applied elsewhere with interviews in pipeline.

This will make them feel insecure that you'll play the offer on offer game or ditch them for someone willing to pay better.

Always, make them feel secure by telling them that they are the ultimate god you worship and irrespective of anything, you'll join them and only them.

@-ANGRY-STUDENT- they asked this because they are 90% sure to hire you and doing their final test.

Next week will be the offer rollout.

It's okay, we all learn from mistakes. Ofc exceptions are there that if they are a good company, they'll make you a fair offer and try to book you first.

    @Floydimus oh shit... 😂

    Just wanted to be honest.

Edit: Don't they already know though that it's normal to apply to more than one company? Like why ask that question
  • 1
    @-ANGRY-STUDENT-

Tell them that since you already had applied so you will give the interviews as you don't want to be rude to cancel them but if they (the company in context) make an offer you'll pick them obviously. Make them feel secure and good about their decision to hire you.

Cover it up smartly. And yes, good thing that you were honest.

@-ANGRY-STUDENT- everyone knows but no one wants to hear. 😂

    Isn't life that way..
  • 1
@Floydimus you're literally a god sent genius. Thanks for the cover tip!
  • 1
    @Floydimus true, life's that way. 😂
  • 1
    @-ANGRY-STUDENT- just phrase it diplomatically.

I am not a genius, just a guy who failed a lot in his life 😂
  • 1
@Floydimus diplomatically as in "I wanted to inform you and forgot to mention in the interview that I will go to next week's interviews just because I don't want to be rude and cancel their interview offers.

I will choose your company offer, if you send it to me."?

Edit: Not just a genius, but also humble. Like it.

    I also can't find all 3 peoples' e-Mails.
They all have Xing though, dunno if this is the correct way to message them though.

Other than that there is also this one other HR girl with whom I've used to mail. She seems to be an assistant who organizes interview meetings etc.

    @-ANGRY-STUDENT-

    "Hey!

That's a good question. Since I was looking out and had applied to bunch of places, I think we were able to close this out sooner than others.

Since, a couple of interviews are lined up then, I don't want to be rude to upright cancel them out so will casually sit for them and await a positive response from you because I am excited to join you.

    Thanks."

    @-ANGRY-STUDENT- use company emails!

I would pass on someone I liked who reached out to me for a job outside of work context.

@sariel I mean none reached out for a job outside of a work context to me.

Just this one HR assistant who organized the meeting.

But that one dev lead and I "clicked" and talked about our hobbies. Probably him then?

    @-ANGRY-STUDENT- sounds like an exception.

For me it's two things. Following chain of command and separation of personal and work life.

My work stays at work. I'm not friends with anyone at work, haven't been for almost 20 years.

Ok, after reading some reddit and quora comments, I think that I'll not contact them and try to correct it.

    Benefits:
    - they know I am dead honest and serious
    - they will speed up the hiring process (as mentioned by floyd before)
    - they know they have competition (more pressure for them to get me)

I'm standing by my honest opinion and will not change my opinion to their liking.

    If it fails, it fails.

Thanks anyways to everyone. I'll keep you updated! :)
