I lost my ability to enjoy computer games.

I really want to revisit my favorite ones (Unreal Tournament, everything made with Source Engine, also Life is Strange, Gish, some other indie games), but every time I try, I feel like alien. I feel like I don’t belong here. Every time there is nothing but sadness.

I even sold my gaming pc upon realizing that after completing Doom 2016 I haven’t played anything at all.

What do I do now?

I felt like I wasn't enjoying gaming for like two years. It's okay to not feel like doing something you usually like. I switched out to playing D&D and stuff, read a lot more, watched movies etc. I've gotten back to gaming, but I also tried some different stuff this time, like eg. buying a used DS Lite to try Nintendo games and JRPGs that I've never played because I've never owned a console.

I can steongly relate to that.
I'm recording the games I play for my audience (not gonna name the channel). It has been over a year and I basically play each day.

At the beginning it felt very awesome, but now every game feels the same.
    Story, mechanics, graphics...

I'm probably playing too much, but I also think that we reached the end of how far games can go.

Every battle royal game, e.g. is fundamentally the same, if you ignore cosmetics (skins) and world designs.

Rust, Valheim are copies of H1Z1 (I guess that was the game name) and PUBG with some changes.

The majority of the new games are just copies of old games with some minor changes imho.

I can pretty much only play indie games nowadays. I think I've bought maybe 3 or 4 AAA titles in the past year and every single one has been a disappointment. Indie games are interesting though, because you can find some really weird and unique ones that break established conventions in new and interesting ways.

I have old favorites, but every time I try to play them I end up getting bored. Probably because I have ADHD, to be fair. But I haven't gotten really stuck in a game and totally enthralled with it for many years now. I find myself playing an hour or less a day lately, even if I enjoy it.

I finally got my hands on a new GPU a few months ago, but I still haven't even installed it yet because I got sick of Cyberpunk 2077 and none of the other games I've played have been new enough to require upgraded hardware. There was a time when that sucker would've gone in my PC the day it showed up and I would've spent hours taxing it to the limit with the most demanding games I could find.

I thought I wasn't enjoying playing video games anymore too. But I actually am more picky than before.

Since I have more money than when I was a kid, I can buy a game and if I don't enjoy it I can simply stop playing it. When I was a kid I had to enjoy the game since it was one or two new games per year.

I got that I'm picky after finishing GoW 2018 in 2 days and starting it again right after. It's not that I enjoy gaming less, it's that I have hard time to find good ones.

Edit: also, there is games I'm freaking hyped for to finally find out I don't enjoy them, it make me think it's me but it's actually the game that doesn't follow the expectations.

Try some really good games. Burnout from gaming is real but you haven't played in a while so you probably are recovering or have recovered from burnout.

The Titanfall 2 campaign is near perfection I would say. There is also really destiny 2 but it is really addictive so stay away from it unless you want to give in 100s of hours. Halo 1 to 3 from what I have heard are pretty good. I have only played halo CE and it is a good shooter with some slight horror because of how dangerous one of the enemies is according to lore

Also since it is the steam summer sale you can get the master chief collection pretty cheap. You could also get destiny 2 if you are intrested. The free version is a glorified trial now so get forsaken and shadowkeep and beyond light digital deluxe edition since the last season was really good but you cannot buy it seperately. You should also be fine with getting this season which is really good storywise. Also get Witcher 3 while you are at it since it is pretty cheap

The thing that makes destiny 2 so addictive is the really good gameplay loop combined with really good gameplay and the top notch sound. They have a lot of really good tracks and they keep delivering really good ones. Just listen to journey. There are also a lot of good songs that match the situation perfectly. Also their art team is also good. They also have raids which are the best content in the game. They are fun and have really good loot.

Bungie also loves to add puzzles but the average player would not care that much. Most are solved before you have seen them and the ones that haven't been solved are really hard.
