!rant

just a poll i'm looking for from all the linux based dev's

What distro would you recommend for a front end dev? Tried ubuntu but the wifi driver wasnt supported I guess in my dev machine. Currently looking at Elementary OS, but still undecided. I would primarily like it to be Debian based or something close as I'm very familiar with apt-get debain based stuff, and dont really feel like learning an entirely new distro at them moment.

PS. I have a Lenovo Ideapad 110
Specs include quad-core AMD A-8, 8gb ram, 1TB HDD, can give more if necessary

    @DLMousey like I said in the rant, I had tried Ubuntu when I first got the machone, but the Wi-Fi didn't want to work :/ installing Elementary as we speak

    @datablitz7 No experience with it. What do you like about it over say Elementary? Which just got done installing and updating :L lol

    They are all only a change of flavor and won't fix your problem. There always seems to be some sort of driver issue when using Linux on laptops so best to just pick a distro based on what you want from it then google the driver problems if and when they occur. I develop using Arch Linux.

    Go with Mint probably, very easy, Debian-based, if you don't want to learn and just want to get right into Linux, that's your distro. Somehow, its even easier than Ubuntu.

    Lenovo uses AMD though, right? I've noticed Linux doesn't play nice with Lenovo all the time, and I blame AMD.

    @jonjo I goofed when I tried Ubuntu. The only solution I found was to make my own drivers. I don't know how to do that so I went back to Windows. The Wi-Fi is working in Elementary so I'll see how it goes. Thanks for you input :)

    @ScribeOfGoD you will probably find the driver support has improved for that model. Elementary is pretty much Ubuntu.

    @ScribeOfGoD All my attempts at Elementary are frought with instability. To be fair, it was really days for that distro.

    Well you won't get rid of your wifi driver problem if you install elementary, you will still need to look up for drivers since elementary is based on Ubuntu

    You could however try Fedora, easy to install..

    Just change apt-get (to) dnf
    and a couple of other stuff and you'll be alright
