As I'm currently learning PHP as go along developing dynamic websites. I like PHP maybe because I know, know different. But now comes a long Node.js and I think maybe I should go down this route of developing web applications and sites. My head is done in weighing up the pros and cons of the two 😱 anyone had or having the same dilemma?

    If you are learning, there's no need to care about pros and cons of using php instead of nodejs. Just learn it. Learn the both language/framework and then when you go build something more "real world" you'll have the power to decide which one is better. Just my 2 cents.

    I prefer Node.js for the obvious reason--it's javascript. However, for the purpose of making simple websites and stuff, i will choose PHP simply because its prepackaged with pretty much all shared hosting plans. So if you intend to make a few static sites, you'll be needing PHP pretty soon

    After 15 years of php learning, I can say you to just start directly to learn a php framework, like laravel.

    Since you're already into PHP stay on that track till your nice and cozy building with it, then start branching out. Don't listen to the haters, PHP is a great and viable language (also where I'm from the majority of the Jobs are using some sort of PHP)

    Also you can try decoupling you're back and front and run a node front end with a PHP API... seems like a solid learn path to me 😎
