I need a new fucking job. Woke up at half 11, missed a couple of meetings. Think I'm just apathetic coz of stupid fucking lying bastard management.

First part is fine, happens to all of us once in a while, no-one cares as long as you don't make a habit of it.

Second part though... yeah, you need a new job.

@AlmondSauce yeah... Basically they lied about what the job was. But having taken a year off for health stuff, then leaving a job after a couple of months, might not look great.

@atheist Yeah, definitely doesn't, would raise red flags in anyone having a look. I'd stick it out at least 6 months if you can, a full year would be worth it unless it's really hideous.

@AlmondSauce I basically got told my manager doesn't care about my disability, I should just deal with it, so... Watch this space.

    @atheist sheesh.

It's not hard to integrate people as most of the time the people had to deal with their shit their whole life - and how surprising - know exactly what they need to look out for.

This is yet another sad case of ignoring a problem that could be solved ""easily"" (in my experience) by talking about it. Ignorance makes not only the problem worse, but leads to an stigmatized employee.

I really hope your next employer will be less of an misanthropic fuck twat and you still try to talk about your disabilities with the next employer.

Easily solvable is not meant in a rude way. But many times a private chat and laying down some ground rules was enough to get everyone integrated...

Which is easier than me having to debug employee XY which only leads to very weird talks as me doesn't want to be inappropriate as a manager, but at the same time needing to poke in dark matter as evidently something is wrong. -.- absolutely no fun.

Fuck, there's so much stuff. I'm (clinically) forgetful and have literally been told "I'd expect you to deal with that, if I have to chase you for things it'll be reflected badly in your performance review". I also requested flexi time and got given "flexi time with core hours", where the core hours are basically my hours with an hour of flexibility at either end. After my experience over the last week, I've sent an email to HR citing the legislation and formally requesting these changes. I've also given them some suggested accommodations, which are basically standard practice in the industry.

This is all skipping over the bit in the interview process where I was told I'd be working with data scientists to productionise their code, and was given assurances by the CTO that it wouldn't be much UI work. Fast forward to me joining and spending the first month writing HTML, raising this with my manager (who was in the fucking interview bastard) that told me "this job is 90% bug fixing and UI work, if that's not what I want to do we should say goodbye, no hard feelings", and the CTO that told me he couldn't give me assistances about whether I'd be doing UI work.

    Just, fuck.

I've been given a few slightly more interesting tasks (might be something to do with mentioning my background in a meeting with the head of data science, or them working out that yes, just like the interview I am competent).

On a positive note, my house mate is a journalist in the tech industry, he's put me in touch with a data science company, so who knows, maybe things will improve.

@atheist they sound toxic as fuck. Good luck getting out of there.

@atheist I once got asked to join a company to rewrite some important software I was one of the original developers of.
Was supposed to rearchitect it into a web based in c# because it was in VB6.

Two years later the project still hadn’t started and I managed to get out. In the meantime they were trying to get me to work on some classic asp shit they had been trying to make work for 2 years, and some bullshit timesheets system someone had written in excel.
Luckily someone in a different office found out we had a .net dev and kept seconding me to his dept.
That was 12 years ago and they still haven’t moved it off VB6.
& that lying scumbag is a high level director now.

I know how it feels to have been lied to in the interview, but your story is a lot worse than the situation I was in.
I’m not sure what you can do.

Reading your story makes me so fucking angry. I hate how changing jobs is 100% risk on the employee and the employers can lie through their teeth.
