We have a brand new employee who won't ever shut the hell up. He likes talking about "my scripts" a whole lot. Guy really loves scripts. He'd admitted to copying these strings from his previous company.

We had an all-tech meeting today and he went on and on, talking about what was at this old company. He's so damn annoying. Listening to him is pure cringe.

Why do I get the feeling that "cringe" is a criticism of someone having a unique personality?

Sounds like he’s bringing a fresh opinion that either will help you improve your processes or help you know that you made the right decision in your processes

Most work contracts in IT include a (very valid and important) copyright agreement, e.g. stating that "all work done on company hardware and / or during working hours belong to the company".

Taking over files from an old employer "just because you still have them" can be thus a copyright infringement, as you don't own these files...

It's as always up to a lawyer to decide the nitty gritty, but as a manager this rings all kind of red flags.

I'm not against scripts per se, as long as the access to them is granted, owned by company and copyright is "legally correct".

These are things that can become very nasty, especially if someone leaves the company

I explicitly wrote files like a script collection or other stuff.
