I love to program — I discovered that about myself a few years ago. Beforehand, I only KNEW how to program. But then I discovered the power programming gives you to create things, and even help your surroundings. So now, I can surely say, that I love programming. Heck, I am even dating a very talented programmer.

But despite all the pleasure I derive from it, I feel lonely sometimes. True, there are millions of programmers all over the world. I also know I am not the only one who prefers coding over going to the movies, taking a walk, eating or sleeping.

Why do I feel this way?

My loneliness is a gendered loneliness, as there are not many women in my field. For sure, there are women who study computer science in high school or at the university, and some even work as programmers. But they are very, very few!

I often underestimate my abilities and feel intimated for no apparent reason

Congratulations on finding what you love to do! It is a way to happiness. Yes, you can and will change the world thru programming. It is true creation and art.

I have been in tech for many years. There should be more women enjoying our profession. Over the years/decades I have seen a moderate increase but I think a significant increase is on the horizon.

Be confident in your skills. Best of luck. Change the world!

    I totally feel you.(weirdest acknowledgement statement 😀).

I love programming I don't think I could have been this happy doing something else.

I also feel lonely. Hard to find someone who understand you, also a woman who understand your wild peogramer joke. The feeling you have, that you need to be two people to be able to both program and communicate with the non-initiated human.

It's a bit painful. I wish it was different, but I must admit being on dev rant shows you that they are women programmer and it feels good.
