People are posting their setups so I thought I'd post this.

It's a 2012 MacBook Pro, 13 inch. I put 16GB ram and some solid state in there just so it gets the job done.

When I was a freshman in high school, my dad saw something in me that he believed in (and I didn't). He decided to put his money where his heart was. He told me that he would go out and buy me a computer, and I wouldn't have to pay him back, if I would work hard at programming to pay for my own college.

His investment payed off. I just graduated high school and started a job last week that will get me through college debt-free through the gap year that I'm taking. This machine's getting a little old, but it means a lot to me. It reminds me that my dad believed in me even when I didn't. 🖖🏼

My dad overdosed on drugs and my mother didn't give a shit what I got up to, though somehow I ended up getting a career I love. Nice to hear a story like this tho. 😃

    Good job!
Good to hear no college/university debt.
Did the same but took two year gap.

I was told I have A.D.D and a learning disability so my school gave me a laptop I started with hacking small things to get passed blockers so I could play games or go online at school then ended up doing 3d animation and from there ended up as a programmer it's amazing what influence and a computer can do lol fallow what you like doing 👍

Touching to see so many similar stories! After he bought a Pentium 75 for the family, my father was all disappointed that I didn't seem to be interested in it... If he could see me now, he'd be proud to see his investment paid off a thousandfold :)

I'm still coding on a mid-2009 MBP with 8GB RAM. A Mac will last you a fucking lifetime (if you're a dog... Or a hamster...)!
