I ran out of milk halfway a chocolate milk.
With no options left, I skeptically decided to add some water.
I had half a cup of milk, added 1/4 of water. Y'know, enough to look filled, not enough to ruin it in case it goes wrong.
Microwave it.
No, freaking, difference. Loved it.
I added some more water to see how much it changes, and it's just slightly less thick and 70% milk flavour. Sure it's a change but now I know the limit.

Traditional cacao drink doesn't even have milk

@electrineer Here we make it ourselves. With milk, chocolate powder, and sugar. It's funny how in different families they use different amounts, or if either one, and the arguments.

You can also try lactose-free milk, which tastes sweeter due to the lactose being broken down, and then reduce the amount of sugar.

@saucyatom If I had something else I wouldn't have used water.
Nah fr thank you, I didn't know.

Milk is water based with emulgeants binding all the fat, so it can be diluted arbitrarily and it will always taste like milk except a little less, not like you added something else. I use this all the time to make cheap-ass perfect pancakes.

@lbfalvy I thought about it, but I still wanted to be sure not to spoil it at once.

@c3r38r170 Not instead of the water, but instead of the regular milk. Might taste different, but worth a try (if you want to reduce the carbs while still enjoying hot chocolate milk). Can combined with the 30% water trick for greater effect.

@lbfalvy There's a threshold however above which it will taste more like milky water rather than watery milk. For pancakes it is higher than for drinks.
