Feature request for DevRant - friends and the ability to reference usernames @superUser

Thanks for the request! The ability to mention @username will be coming soon. It should be in the release right after the next one (which will be search/tag tapping capability!)

For your friends idea, what what that be exactly? I'd like to understand what you're looking for there so we can try to provide some kind of feature that covers it.

Got my vote! Following people would be great! Maybe some space on profiles for a picture as well as other social network links.

@dfox i think they are just referring to the ability to follow certain people ala instagram. Especially as this grows with more users it would help with through the noise (and your algorithm feed could adapt to your followers)

Thanks, that makes sense I think. And good idea, it would be great for the feed algo because we could bubble up content from people you follow but we could also maybe do some collaborative filtering where we take into account content the people you're following with are +1'ing, etc.

@dfox - Exactly what baurmetal said. Basically a way to keep in touch. I like baurmetal, and it would be cool if there was some feature of how we can "follow" eaxhother, or a way how I can quickly see what my friends have posted/commented.

Essentially a way to keep tabs on friends or a way to keep in touch.

Request 2: Maybe a chat feature to break off in mini-chats?

If you do do a chat feature i would point to sendbird as a third party provider for it.

We will definitely consider some kind of private messaging or chat, though I'm not sure exactly what that would look like at this point. Of course suggestions are welcome though and I will take a look at sendbird, thanks for that! (It looks pretty cool)

At this stage we don't have too many resources since we're bootstrapped and there are only 2 of us, so we're trying to prioritize features based on user demand and what we think improves the value/quality of the app!

@dfox keep up the good work and don't let us overwhelm you with ideas. We definitely love how things are coming along. 👍🏻

Thank you, I really appreciate it :) Seeing the community grow and users like you and champion01 and many more contributing great content/discussions/feedback is very rewarding and we appreciate everyone who does that and who uses the app!

Please don't turn it into something else. It's great because of its simplicity. I love the open randomness of it all where we can see, post and comment on anything by anyone wether they are seasoned pros or amateurs. And the anonymity, because when I am ranting about a boss, client etc I need it to be anonymous for obvious reasons. There's plenty a social network for connecting with just friends and colleagues. Devrant is great don't lose the core of why it's great by making it "better".

@zaba i think there is probably a safe middle ground, and having the option doesn't necessarily require that users do it (by do it i mean become less anonymous).

There's just a lot of opportunity for good connections and relationships here that should definitely not be avoided. 👍🏻
