I hate the growing trend in IT to be "diversity" or "embrace diversity." It's Orwellian because embracing diversity is a form of uniformity. None of these companies want diverse ideas; they want you to believe in a specific ideology.

I wrote a full article on this the other week:

I mostly oppose _striving_ for diversity (which is very different from just naturally _having_ diversity which is perfectly fine!) because it's essentially just new age racism

How is it okay to make hiring or HR decisions based on someones skin color or gender. It's not okay and I don't care if you tell me a great story about systematic oppresssion or some other shit. If you want to be racist be racist don't act high and mighty about it because you're not a good person either way

@12bitfloat there are other types of diversity besides skin color, right?

Different perspectives from background, levels of disability, socioeconomic etc.

@sheriffderek Read the link to my article in the original post. Short answer: no. Diversity of ideas are bad. Only certain types of diversity are okay.

@djsumdog I guess it depends what lens you are looking through and what you consider an ideal world. I think that labor and design are very different. I’d prefer to have a diverse team. But I wouldn’t be doing that for any social fad reasons. I can agree with many of your thoughts. But I’m unsure of your goal.

@sheriffderek Yes, how does that change anything about my comment though?

Nah, you just think only people who deserve it should have a job. What a bigoted idea.

Well, in the larger scheme of things, and if you can get out of the meritocratic / capitalist mindset, well, everyone is non-uniformly equal?

@hardCoding Bad take. Every single attempt at something other than meritocracy was a fucking disaster from top to bottom. Capitalist societies are the pinnacle of our world even for all the problems capitalism has. Nothing else works, please get out of your utopia thinking

Sounds like a non issue to me. A storm in a teacup.
