Does wanting to leave a company simply because of legacy code with no documentation and too much work a bit reason? I guess it probably is as anywhere could have the same thing :) Maybe management would be better suited for me, time to take courses

I guess just to add so I don't seem like a privileged little shit (probably still am) we've had to do data and privacy assessment for all our data and services and how they're used, we did the database stuff decent quickly as not too many (50 tables) but now we have to go through APIs to see if we ever use data that's PII and there's I kid you not 500+ endpoints, 80% of which I've never seen or used and have no docs, and we need to get this done by this week :)

Did I mention our manager assigned us to obligatory training for this week so we had even less time this week to work on this than normal :)

Legacy code is okay as long as the company is committed to actively working on modernizing it. If you are stuck with adding features and fixing a shitload of bugs in a legacy codebase, it's time to leave and look for a place where you'll be able to work with better tech and learn to tackle new challenges.

@aadilp thing is, we do have big legacy systems that we actively work on though I don't think we have plans to migrate, but then there's so many services that our team is responsible for that we have never heard of let alone worked or looked into, and when it comes to stuff like now where we have to go through them with a strict critical deadline, I honestly have no idea how we can get it done

I think no job is forever, if what you are currently doing is not useful to learn a new skill you could use in your next job, I would look for another job as soon as possible

@pandasama Sorry you're in this situation. This should be a wake up call for the company to invest a bit of time in improving the tech.

I think if you're about to reach a point where you are an expert in your company's legacy systems, it's time to leave asap.
