That's not a linter that is a formatter I hope. We have that as a pre commit hook. Unless something (as in input) really throws it off, there should be no way a faulty setup is entered.

Is your issue perhaps with line-endings or was there just a change entered without properly testing the tooling?

Please don't use linters if you don't own the repo AND there is no config in the repo.
