I mean...we all knew it was coming when they bought Github. They already have VSCode, they wouldn't support two competing products. Atom's days were numbered as soon as the acquisition went through.
-
@IntrusionCM VScode has telemetry, it is just a malware, spyware you are using, google it
-
C0D4669442yAtom's days were numbered the day VSCode hit the shelf running.
And that was years ago.
Atoms best selling point was it was a juiced up text editor using coffee script.
VsCode went more native and offered a lot more flexibility to customise.
Sure there's telemetry, even Atom had it. https://github.com/atom/atom/...
You can't complain about MS having its fingers in their own pie, when your pie talks back to the same assholes 😅 -
@C0D4 I decided to never use their shady products, and I'm stick to open source apps, I actually found VSCodium a VSCode flavor without the worms can
-
C0D4669442y@dIREsTRAITS next you'll tell me you use Google services 🤷♂️
I get it, privacy is key in this world these days, but at least one MNC knows your life story. -
@C0D4 I'm slightly figuring out how to get out of this trap, everytime i try to find alternative solution
-
@bigmonsterlover luckily there are good alternatives like Gitlab and Bitbucket, so they know they can't force in too much monetization or people will jump ship.
-
@dIREsTRAITS I see that you've discovered VSCodium, which is nice. For example, it's one click away through pamac (Arch/Manjaro user here). Boom, no stinky telemetry, nor is there stupid ass branding MS tries to push.
You basically benefit from existing VS Code ecosystem, except for stinky proprietary extensions that can be superceded by alternative OSS solutions. No guarantee here, but I think of it as a normal IDE to get the shit done. -
Based on initial re reactions my guess is windows 11 is another windows me/Vista
-
@C0D4 aren't the people who built atom the people who wrote electron which is what vs code somehow is built with ?
I tell you the results do speak well if there aren't a million back doors heh
Just a shame everything uses chromium !!
Did atom use chromium or was it native ? -
C0D4669442y@AvatarOfKaine atom and vsCode use electron, electron is backed by the OpenJS foundation, which is backed by some big companies, including MS and Google.

As I said, these fuckers have their fingers in every piece of pie.

Microspyoft decided to retire Atom IDE, what a bullshit company, if you check their asses you will find them stinky as garbage because they only use toilet paper, I started to stop using their shit, any basic solution they offer to you that you might think 'Oh, that's the solution to rely on for a lifetime ' no man hold your excitements cause they are going to fuck your brain later, same as they will do with Windows10, suddenly the bunch of lazy asses decided 'actually let's create windows11, and stop supporting windows10 by 2025' Go to fuck yourselves bitches, I stopped using all your shit.
