Colleague: Just commit to the current branch so we don't ruin the dev-branch
Me: We could also just create a new branch?
Colleague: No use this one, branches don't "grow on trees"
Me: *facepalm*...

    What a hilarious joke.

Your co-worker must be a knowledgeable and wise guy.

Not to mention ruggedly handsome of course.

He's wrong, git branches grow on git trees.
    And they're incredibly cheap.

Branches should grow plentiful, but give them fresh sap from the trunk often. Cherry picking can help if you're hungry for something sweet in a remote branch. When your tree is sick, sometimes you'll have to prune it a little using bisect. Push and pull branches often to make them strong against failure, grow them in any way you like, but never splice the fundamental fibrous structure into something it wasn't before.
