AFAIK the custom firmware is still in really early​ stages. Knew I was in good company the other day with two devs and all three of us had Pebbles. Still nothing better out there

@Haxk20 the company went bankrupt so you can't buy them anymore directly, however you might still find them in stock somewhere and used ones for sale. Price is probably going to depend on where you find it.
Rebble is custom firmware that's supposed to keep the Pebble going strong, but it's still not finished... The official Pebble firmware afaik doesn't rely on their servers anymore, but some features were just turned off in order to achieve that I believe.
I loved the Pebble, but since my Pebble OG died and Pebble 2 didn't arrive because of the bankruptcy, I went for a Garmin Vivoactive HR which is supposed to arrive next Wednesday so I'll know more about it then. I'm much less of a power (dev) user now, though...

@Bikonja i have the garmin vivosmart hr since a year and i can't live without it anymore. so i wish you good luck with it :)
