yup. js reverts to the basics after the frameworks get bloated.

But why is this? Even with a revert back to basics, isn't jquery almost as basic as it gets?

Tldr; Because JS is no longer a browser based client side only language. It can work on almost any platform now.
jQuery being a DOM dependent library doesn't fit with this at all.

True. I was taught JS using jQuery and was told only a few months later that traditional JavaScript was used more.

No way, use JQuery any time, without caring what language you use, just USE JQUERY
