Why does everyone assume that developers are going to become billionaires someday?

They can. But they have to stop being Developer and become Businessman.

Because some of the richest people out there got rich with computers and software. People stupidly assume it's like that for all devs.

But to be fair devs are pretty well paid in most countries. In some countries even better than doctors

@bendr hell no. Most of the devs are useless compared to the doctors. What do we do? Help some retards to save 2button clicks every day, create some shitty ass website where as doctors improve your health.
Also, the pay doesn't even depend on how useful you are.

@Huuugo @bendr Salary is a function of supply/demand, not usefulness.

Learning to become a developer or doctor both require a lot of time, and both are required in bigger numbers than available. So even the shitty ones are paid relatively well — often just because the person who pays them doesn't have enough knowledge to assess the quality of their work.

@sesh @nikolatesla I don't doubt that it's possible for us to make insane amounts of money but I feel like the average developer makes a lot but nowhere near the expectation from a non developer
