What do you guys think of having a "go anonymous" feature while ranting?

I was thinking when community will go larger and people who know each other in real life, start following each other, then it might become hard for them to rant about stuff or they might become hesitant in rantings.

    I remain anonymous by not revealing who I am to my industry chums, but I guess it can got tricky for some. If it prevents someone from posting a juicy rant then it may be a possibility. But then what happens to all the +'s.

    I just don't tell anybody what my account is. Also, giving the option of anonymous posts brings really weird stuff here. Some people aren't normal.

    @jobylie but if you have to be a registered user to post anonymously then the post and account can be linked (behind the scenes) therefore moderators can fuck them off.

    @helloworld do they have the app "Jodel" where you live? It's basically like twitter but anon and you see the posts of people in your area. About 10% of the posts are either about diharea or some racist text against muslims. They have a very good moderator system but it stil is a problem. Even though the anon posts are linked to the personal account. The community on devrant is much nicer but as it grows those people might also join.

    @jobylie but the community won't stand for this, we have the 'report' feature which should help get them removed. But i understand your point though. The thing is anyone can bogus register to post anyway. PS never heard if the app you mention and signed up to twitter shortly after it was created. The account has remained dormant ever since, i still don't see any point to it.

    @helloworld even if the posts were to be removed within seconds, they would have been there in the first place. And Jodel is mostly used by students in Germany, Switzerland and scandinavian countries to distribute information about uni

    Maybe only users with more than 564 rating should be able to post anonymously? I mean, you gotta filter out the crazies

    @apisarenco or premium users

    I'm not sure if anonymity will help so much. If there are people who knows you outside of devRant and are reading your rants, they might as well recognize you by the story you post.

    Or just rant the truth.

    And if you realize you're reading your coworker's rant and it's about you, be enough of an adult to realize that phrases like "Fuck you, your code is as unreadable and contradictive as Trump's tweets!" and "I hope you choke to death on your trash code inside a garbage collector!" are constructive criticism.

    It's like rap, we bitch openly about each other in a creative context, so we don't have to start gang wars in the office.

    @helloworld I'd sacrifice getting some ++'s to post anonymously, I'm @brod most places online and don't want to give it up here, but many rants have been deleted or withheld entirely because of fears that coworkers/employers would see them 😒

    I'm confused by this. Just create an anonymous username.

    No?

    @GigaMick What if it's too late for someone? What if someone can still find out who you are just by your rants and comments?
  • 2
    @apisarenco well if they can tell who you are by just your rants and comments then having an anonymous username isn't going to help. Is it?
  • 1
    But isn't the content of the rant it self is what blows up ur cover? I don't tell anyone my name here, but if I rant about an incident at work I'm pretty sure my colleague will know it was me if he sees it

    devrant account is a new hiring criteria
  • 1
    @theScientist there isn't unless we make our rant less specific

    @GigaMick not just by 1 rant, but by a collection of rants. If they can all be traced to 1 user, anonymity goes away bit by bit.

    You can always change your username though.. not a definitive solution but can help..

    @gashadokuro so we'd end up with a devrant full of shitty memes and jokes copied from the web. I personally would abandon devrant if the proper rants disappeared. There is a need for some anonymity, its just a discussion as to wether the current implementation will suffice.

    @the-nsa You can? I saw no such option.
  • 0
    @apisarenco yeah, through profile options
  • 0
    @apisarenco that still has nothing to do with your username.
  • 0
    @the-nsa no you can't. Only "About", coding languages, website, github, location.

    @apisarenco sorry through settings

    @the-nsa Settings has only 2 things: Log out and Delete Account
