    While everyone complains about Microsoft enforcing updates, this is exactly why.

    Nope.
    See keep one thing in mind, not having information makes you look dumb.
    But having the wrong information makes you even worse.
    This thing also works the MS17-010 vulnerability,which was patched, found in the update dated mid January 2017 on the Microsoft, and it's the same vulnerability as the that wannacry worked on, so anyone who updated their systems while wanna cry, is safe.

    @sam9669 according to Symantec reports, the NotPetya malware spreads using classic SMB spreading techniques...
    Hence, it can spread within organizations even they've patched against EternalBlue

    @bugHunter well one report said it spread through third party installation software, but an organization doesn't allow that because of admin authorization, so that it can be prevented, other than that, phishing emails, spams are also the source, so should stay away from that.
