Does anyone have any ideas how to start "learning" WordPress? It's a pretty hot area in my neck of the woods and I think it should be something that I am at least aware of 📖

Thanks guys!

While I like WordPress, I don't like people using pre-built themes. It's all shit. I' ll suggest that you try to clone a website for fun to learn WordPress.

Oh well yes, I didn't mean using pre built themes 😂 @error503

Start by learning something NOT wordpress. React, Angular, Vue, hell even Ruby on Rails. Companies REALLY need to stop using Wordpress.

Haters gonna hate. Try telling any paying customer "I can make your website look pretty much like that one fairly quickly with a totally existing, tested, widely used and extendible admin area" vs "I can make your website look like that one less quickly and give you a very limited and possibly ultra buggy admin area" and see which one they go for.

For all its flaws, WP *is* mega popular, reasonably widely known and a decent platform to build on. You might be a purist and not be able to get over the limitations or difficulties when it comes to extending it, but that's your problem.

There are entire companies built around WP development and extension for a reason.

Did you know they're currently discussing which JS framework to rewrite it in?

@Ratwerks A really bad advice. WP is very convenient for small businesses, hence a huge generator of jobs. Clients are not prepared to cough up more money and spend more time for a custom solution. I hate WP too, but facts are facts.

@CrankyOldDev is absolutely correct, but WP is still a pain in the ass and a poorly functioning time bomb in the hands of the wrong people. All the more reason to learn it I guess.

@error503 I recently used a pre built theme in an effort to expedite development. BIG MISTAKE. So much bloat and questionable crap in a pro theme. Ew.

Wordpress is super convenient, until it gets conveniently hacked, then it's not so convenient.
