As a group of computer-ily inclined people, what are your opinions one the words developer, programmer, and computer scientist? Do you see them as distinctly different things? Or interchangable? If so, how come?

    I'm called a "software engineer", but really I'm a code monkey. :-p

I think developers and programmers the same, but a computer scientist is someone that solves new problems or maybe solves an old problem in a new way, things like security, encoding, decoding, optimization, protocols, encryption, and so on.

I on the other hand think a programmer creates programs. Not scripts or websites. While a developer could do both.

I had always considered developer and programmer to be relatively interchangable, and I dont really know much about computer scientists but I read this article ( http://skorks.com/2010/03/... ) that argues they are all different.

software engineer means to me (will not fight about it) someone who is knowledgeable enough to structure a large project and a developer is the one who builds the individual parts. (one person could have 2 roles ) In many cases one person is all of these titles. But for someone who knows HTML & CSS only, I would consider them to be at best a Web developer.
