Counters and stats on many websites are a bit off for 2 reasons: Caching is cheaper than querying, and you don't want to reveal stats to bots in a too-real-time way.

github95617y@bittersweet that's not the reason y likes counter and #views is off..
I have watched interview video from an engineer in YouTube.. and he said that they consider #views as money. So, after 300 views or sometimes 301 views (this 301 was a typo instead of 300 by a developer long back).. the views are scrutinized and properly filtered so that only the valid views are added up. Though, the same doesn't goes for #likes. It's simply an increment with no verification and validation..
