I am thinking about switching back from Linux to windows as everything feels so unpolished UI wise...

    Well go ahead!

    If after trying all of the UI options you figured you need to go to Windows, go ahead.

    Whatever floats your boat.

    The thing is that I don't want to experiment too much. Have you got any suggestions what I could try? I am currently running ubuntu.

    Why don't you tell straight a way that you are in love with fluent design in Windows 10. 😉😉

    Linux has the perfect UI. It is called CLI.

    @MCCshreyas yes I am. I always loved longhorn and it's concepts and the fluent design remembers me of that. @codepoet yeah that's true but I can have bash and so on on windows as well. And even if the cli is great the UI looks so unfinished and old-school

    Maybe elemental os is more your speed?

    I tried it but I didn't really like it - elementary looks great tough.

    @dsteiner between gnome, cinnamon, KDE, pantheon, budgie, deepin... All of them being customizable, not having something better than windows is your fault! Example attached

    Go on /r/unixporn and you might change your mind

    @dsteiner closest to Windows 10 is probably KDE with some customizations. You could get it as either an installable Desktop Environment on your Ubuntu, or if you want to start fresh, get either Kubuntu or KDE's official distribution - KDE Neon.

    @AndSoWeCode Well it's not that it has to look like windows - I just want it to look clean and polished like macOS or Windows (yes windows still has some rough edges)

    Hmm have you given Cinnamon a look?

    @willol step-by-step analysis needed

    @dsteiner have you tried kde plasma?

    @dsteiner and why is Unity not polished? What problems did you have with it? It's one of the most polished UIs on the market.

    But whatever, if you want the same but with more customization, you might as well try Gnome3 with Wayland on Fedora (Ubuntu's version puts a black thick bezel on the terminal emulator if it's got any opacity settings turned on)

    This is such a doofis rant, frankly speaking
    Who uses Linux because of GUI?

    Zorin OS as a distro is designed to specifically look like W10. Try it.

    As said. I dont want it to look like windows, I want it to feel polished.

    Have you tried budgie? I think it looks beautiful with one of their default wallpapers

    @LicensedCrime Yeah and how should I use a browser without a UI
  • 2
    Linux is most known for how customizable it is, if you do not customize your os as you would like it to be, don't think there is a need to go to some other distro for it's look. Beside bash in windows and bash in Linux give totally different experiences. If windows works for you then go to windows after all they are both tools and tools should be used however you find them helpful. I personally find linux (arch) really beautiful after a good customization, it could certainly take some time befor you find the perfect look that you can peace with but if you don't take the time to make it as you want it will never feel that close to your heart...

    @dsteiner get a command line browser. Also get something like elm for email.

    @ewpratten right. And how to debug my work which is webdevelopment?
  • 0
    @linuxxx I tried to. I've got it installed on my PC but somehow I can't switch to it :S

    @dsteiner be smart? Don't add bugs in the first place..

    I really don't know a good answer I was just trying to be helpful.

    @AndSoWeCode well I am not entirely sure if that's unity's fault but it's done small things which are to long to explain on the phone at this time of the day

    You're probably using Unity, aren't you? May I suggest using GNOME? It's cleaner, it's a lot more customizable and it's the future of Ubuntu. Right now I am using Fedora 26 with GNOME 3.24, I am using a shell and GTK theme called Equilux which looks really cool and has material design animations, a Paper icon theme and breeze dark cursors. All in all I am not missing the Windows at all. Not in design nor practicality, and definitely not in performance and stability.

    @dsteiner
    If you want a good, Windows-like experience out if the box, I suggest Antergos or Korora with the Cinnamon Desktop. You can't go wrong with those two's default themes

    Update: as of now I am pretty happy with Ubuntu Budgie :)
