Is it a fun project and you learn a lot? You may continue by investing a bunch of hours. (Just go home early in the following week.) Yet realize: learning happens on the job.

Are you paid by the hour? Go home, enjoy the weekend. Come back on Monday. Be honest about the state of progress. Let the managers manage.

Just because there's a shitload of work doesn't mean you the one having to do it. Don't waste your weekend.
