As a freelance web developer, should I develop my own website to market myself?

    Absolutely.

Show your skills off. Make it known your website is your skillset.

    Definitely!

What other option do you have? Why would you pay an onther freelancer to do that?

ehm... yes of course? or at least do some portfolio projects.

@kb88 @jobylie Kinda thinking the same thing lol. Why would you pay another developer or use some (most likely) shitty theme, when you can do it yourself?

Internship interview at an advertising agency.

The only thing I really showed off was my website. Or they wouldn't have taken me for the job ^^

    Yes. Absolutely.

... But good luck ever finishing it. I've been redoing mine for the past three years and have yet to publish anything. Six redesigns? Check. Backend changes? Check. Is it complicated? No. Am I a perfectionist? Yes.

Absolutely! I'm not even a webdev but I'm building mine so I can have a resume of sorts to show off projects alongside the website I built and am hosting.

I have many projects in my portfolio

If you suck at graphics design go launch a design contest on a website like designcrowd.com. you'll get a very nice and slick design in no time and really doesn't cost that much. Then you can build it by yourself and it will look really great.

I forgot to add that I'm a freelancer too and don't have any portfolio website. My LinkedIn profile is my portfolio.
