This was my first real programming bible. I remember reading it chapter after chapter in the car on long car trips as a youngster and being so excited about the stuff I was learning I would explain it to my mom in the front seat as I was learning it. I'm sure she didn't understand a word of it.

Funny thing is I still do that today, 25 years later. And I'm sure she still understands not a word!

So, what was the book that really got you into programming?

This was my brother's book when he went to a vocation school to become a programmer.
(He obtained the degree, but he never actually got into that, he became an accountant and now he is a coast guard.)
Around 20 years ago I saw it was getting dust and I wanted to learn to code.
The GWBasic compiler was still hanging around in back up discs, so I've started making small programs first.
By the time I've learnt the basics, I went into university and started programming in C/C++.
But I'll never forget this book and I took it with me to save it from recycling, I consider it a kind of legacy with some other items as well.

P.S./Edit: The book of the title reads: "BASIC Programming Language".

I actually only have one book, it's about PHP and MYSQL, I've never read it. And I got that like 2 years after I started coding.

It all started with this idea, I wanted my own domain so that I can have a website. At first it was only in plain HTML and CSS but then it got more complicated, some PHP backend and so on. Then I made a web-app for a school project in PHP. And now I'm really enjoying C.

I'd really like to get some books, any recommendations for C? 😊

@olback You should read it! At least skim it and see if there's anything interesting. I'm sorry I can't recommend anything, I haven't read about C since probably this book! I moved onto C++ shortly thereafter.

Ah man, that's awesome! I used to explain stuff to my mum in the car too, but more like mathematics and stuff for my school work. 🤓 it helps a lot!

FutureBASIC here! Can't find a shot of the book cover online, so I had to make do. Still have the language reference and syntax guides on my shelf somewhere as a souvenier...

A complete reference indeed. This one got me hooked to Java.
