First things after buying a new phone:
Unlock bootloader, install Lineage OS

    @Torbuntu You should definitely install this. My default rom was Miui and was full of bloatwares and chinese apps. I wasn't sure if Lineage is a good choice but now I love it. No regret.

    Which MI model do you have? I recently bought redmi 4, couldn't find suitable rom for my mobile. I'm kinda new at this. Never tried rooting my phone. Can you tell me whether redmi 4 has lineage os support?
  • 2
    @shamik I have redmi 3 prime, you can check the official lineage os website.
    https://download.lineageos.org/

    Thanks. I just checked. redmi 4 is not listed. :-(

    My Samsung s5 runs super on lineage.

    Byebye bloatware

    @shamik Go on XDA and check if there are other custom ROMs for your phone
  • 1
    @demiko Shit, I hope the OpenKirin team will make one for you

    @Neraeh there is surprisingly less number of posts for redmi 4. I could find a rom or two but they have wifi bugs etc. I'm using nova launcher to make it look like stock but that's not a permanent solution! Hopefully lineage will release support for redmi 4 too in near future.

    @demiko but I've bought it from Amazon in India. I guess the Chinese version of redmi 4 is redmi 4X. Anyway, which model do you have?
  • 1
    @demiko ah I see. So do you think there's a chance they might release lineage for the Indian version?

    Approved (by a LineageOS maintainer). 😉

    The only thing that surprised me is that there is no theme engine. I used to have a lot of themes on my old phone with cm13. I don't know why they removed it :(
  • 2
    No official lineage for OnePlus 5 yet
  • 3
    @Alireza6677
    They didn't remove it, with Android nougat, theme engine needed some changes. They were being worked on, but then CM became history. And in LineageOS, I don't think anyone is working on it right now, they may ditch CMTE altogether (coz of copyright issues maybe).

    What I did with my phone, too bad the ROM is not official (yet)
  • 2
    @0xTJ oxygen os is super nice. No lineage needed

    Still rocking Linage OS on my 4 years old Moto X.

    Bought a zenfone 2 a few years back as an extra phone for my mom. I asked for it since I got her a new one. I feel terrible letting my mom use that interface and the bloatware that came with the stock rom. Installed Lineage and feels like a new phone all over again. (Almost) Vanilla Android ftw!

    Or as I do, grab the device tree or make my own and compile CarbonROM from source! Love that ROM ❤️
  • 2
    100% agree. Have used it a lot and it's stable and reliable even though they didnt make a stable version for my poor phone (oneplus one)
  • 2
    I made an unofficial build for my Galaxy S5 Sport since it isn't supported. Completely worth it.

    First thing I do, before I buy a new phone, is to check how active is the dev community for it on XDA-developers. Once you start using custom ROMs there is no going back

    The Redmi Note 4 or 4X with Snapdragon CPUs just recieved official Lineage! http://download.lineageos.org/mido
    It's not showing up in the list yet so you have to go to mido manually
  • 1
    @filthyranter Mido is redmi note 4. It's a different model from redmi 4
  • 1
    @demiko ah I see.. ir blaster is also working?? Btw apparently they've just released lineage for redmi note 4. Hopefully redmi 4 will get it too soon
  • 1
    @shamik Dude, I know. I'm just one of the few people in Austria that show up on stats.lineageos.org/mido under countries.

    @demiko
    Hey man just came across this one:
    https://xiaomifirmware.com/roms/...
    do you think it's legit?

  • 2
    @shamik I can find you a legit link if you want. Which CPU have you got? Some Xiaomi phones have MediaTek CPUs, some Qualcomm Snapdragon...

    ...or do you know an exact codename?
  • 2
    @demiko Codename for 4X?
  • 2
    @filthyranter I think codename for 4X is santoni.
  • 1
    @shamik Hmm... The only link I found is http://cyanogenmods.org/forums/...

    Maybe you can find something in the official MIUI forums because cyanogenmods.org seems not too legit to me...

    I have Redmi 4A. Is there an official lightweight ROM for it?

    Edit: I am new to the whole thing.
