I'm curious to know having learned and gotten comfortable with PHP. Is it actually on the decline?

i think its slowing down as a trendy language, in lack of a better word, due to new technologies, JS grabbing hype for node and all.

However it, in its self is still going strong with version 7.2 closing in for release.

@theuser Yea it sucks that the community of JS is so strong. These evil bastards make you LEARN new things, how dare they! I want to write the same old PHP I did in 2000 and still be competitive!

Seems like PHP lovers hate progress... smh

@Froot I'm just a student actually. I'm just kinda wondering what happens in the long run with these react, angular and whatnot solutions. I do understand PHP is quite messy though

Framework like react, vue and so on die of after a couple of years. PHP will not die off in the next decade or three

@theuser I will always recall my former functional manager on our solutions design team for making this rather glorious statement:

"PHP is the cockroach of programming languages. It will never die or go away no matter how much you try to kill it."

@Linux @KyrePh Well comparing React to PHP is quite unfair now isn't it? 😄 It should be React Vs Laravel or PHP vs JS.

@Froot Yeah, you are right about comparing a language with a framework. But how common is it to utilize plain js and node though?

I'm mostly a node guy myself but I dabbled with php, it's still quite a useful language and I don't see why I wouldn't be able to build an app right now that doesn't work as well as node (except sockets ♥). Performance PHP I hands down better than node and I think it's still a relevant language, especially after PHP 8 comes out.
