    Anyone else thinking about that Black Mirror episode about this?

    'Play test' - is worth a watch

    @MammaNeedHummus @We3D

    Pretty soon, it will turn into:

    "Pay $8.99 a month to remove ads from ur brain."

    "Pay $15.99 a month to retain all your memories from 5+ years ago."

    "Please pay your remaining dues so we don't do a factory reset of your head."

    "Oops, our systems got hacked and now someone from some other city can see what you're seeing. We are sorry for the temporary inconvenience"

    @Sid2006 they depict it pretty well in the 'warning' movie ;)

    It's about time. Also: Cyberpunk for the win.

    In general. Good idea.

    https://spectrum.ieee.org/bionic-ey...

    But stories like these ... I find it terrifying.

    E.g. you get a partial vision back after being blind for your whole life, just to lose it.

    ...

    I mean... Think of it. Epilepsy, brain damage, ...

    You finally made a recovery and then someone pulls the plug.

    I think science can do a lot of good, but some areas shouldn't be in private investment hands.

    E.g. the cost of insulin in USA is a pretty good example - or other medicine which might be life saving yet destroying your life cause you can't pay for it...

    This is torture.

    @rewriteitin-c I feel like that would be a great idea. Give out the complete code of the person's specific requirements so they can customise it on their own terms.

    It sounds good to open source....

    But we're not talking about some program, we're talking about neuroscience and human medicine.

    I don't think open sourcing will help.

    A lot of highly specific knowledge will be needed.

    @IntrusionCM You could rent out specialists for that

    @Sid2006 I... Doubt that...

    We're not talking about simple medicine.

    Or even better, just participate in my stream of consciousness I had upon reading your message:

    D: Hi, don't worry you're in good hands.

    Me: *sigh of relief* You can fix it?

    D: Yeah it's open source. We found an underpaid guy and underpaid him even more, but he's certain he can fix it...

    Me: Eh... Nope... Don't wanne be a vegetable.

    @rewriteitin-c

    Yeah... That could be... But... I don't think that I have hope left after the 15 years plus of IT management experience.

    😭

    Or to quote the english translation of Inferno, as it fits IT so well:

    all hope abandon ye who enter here...
