I don't like any debian based distro ... however, I must admit ubuntu is great for server, but for nothing else.
-
Exactly that is the reason why I avoid Debian/*buntu desktop ... it's slow as hell.
-
Not sure if this applies to other linuxers but for me it's something 'ethical'. Ubuntu has done multiple things which are very wrong ethically IMO. They integrated an opt-out (so you're opted in by default) local system search advertisement thingy which was also connected to Amazon.
Also they have pulled some shit like trying to intimidate some hosting providers to only offer official Ubuntu ISO's and not their own (the hosting providers' ones) modified Ubuntu ISO's. I mean that's the thing about open source, you can modify it to suit your needs and the last thing you need is getting the company behind those ISO's on your back because you're offering modified iso's. (I don't know what was modified but it had to do with hosting environments).
So yeah I am ethically against it although I still use it on some servers :). -
@ewpratten No I meant like in general do you like Linux/Foss stuffs? Just asking because there's a Linux/FOSS group chat going on so if you're also into that stuff :)
-
@linuxxx I'm assuming that you might know something about this,
I saw that there was a devrant slack channel. If it still exists, how do I join? -
@ewpratten Fair enough! If you're in for it, you're most welcome to join the group chat! (although it also contains some privacy/security peoples including me)
-
@ewpratten Register at riot.im, download one of it's clients (the browser version sucks) and give me your username! It's encrypted because we've got a lot of privacy peoples as well :D
-
@ewpratten This one is about linux/foss/privacy/security, the slack one is a general devRant one!
-
@ewpratten Sounds good :D. Just give me your username once finished and I'll add you!

devnope5397yUbuntu slaughters kittens
Google it and watch the bsdnow.tv episode...

Seriously, the broken package Management, the bloatware, the Error handling... This ceased to be acceptible long ago for me -
I stopped using Ubuntu and switched to alpine best decision I could ever make, but yes I am used to keyboard only so that is why mabye

purist12027yMay be , I have used only Ubuntu and Debian ( for a short time ) , i find it good in desktop . I dont know about the server editions . What alternatives do i have if i dont want to bust my ass just to install an OS ( i meant Arch here ! ) .
-
xsacha4317yIf you know Linux well enough, all distros are the same with different package managers, repositories and settings. So that is they are all effectively the same or can be made the same and you can't hate on that.
Distrowatch.org is a good site to compare them with.
