There are plenty of reasons why people need to use the dark web. Protecting reporters and whistleblowers being one of them.

now, thats mostly tor, but there are also i2p which is different but very interesting.. :)

@lotd the onion routing protocol is not as anonymous aa you think it is. whoever controls the exit nodes is the one who controls the traffic,which make me...the one in control.

i know. i had my own exit on a do.co droplet but got really damn sick of those mails it generated ... ;D
most i got away with simply saying i'm an tor exit or relay but some were a pita, to put it mildly
