I'd blame more of Apple's design on not permitting the fans from ramping up when they should. Usually they only ramp up just before reaching the CPUs max temp, its why they get hot so quick.
Had a MBP for years before ditching to an XPS 15. Now quiet and cool even under load, because the fans ramp up when they should.
Found this in our codebase, apparently one of my co-workers had written this
Turned on my MacBook, opened up Xcode, within typing one line of code my computer starts heating up and the fans are loud as fuck
