So apparently, when you wipe the empty space on your hard drive under windows it fucking deletes the grub from that disk as well.

Thank you CCleaner you can go fuck yourself!

    Sure, I've read that. Still nothing similar happened to me. Guess I really am lost the game.

    Well I've just got the habit that I don't like file fragments remaining on my drive even after deletion. That's why I occasionally wipe the empty space (basically it means that it's filling up the empty space with some random data then deletes it - one or more times - so my original files can't be recovered)

    Just use a VM I know it doesn't give same experience unless you have a powerful PC, but it saves you headache from this type of issues.
    Even if you had to format you backup a machine and install vbox again and all good to run.
    Of course you need at least 8GB of RAM and I suppose now adays it's a high chance you have those
