Antivirus have acces to system32. Thats why they often falsely get detected as virus.

Switch to linux, where there are almost no virus, but the virus that exist are the worst

I stopped bothering with AV once I noticed that my common sense had better detection ratios.

Setup file there would probably contain a version of the signature database, maybe it picked up signature strings somewhere in the binary?

Honestly I don't trust any form of anti virus, I just use windows defender and I'm careful when it comes to the web, not one issue to date.

(I sometimes do use JRT and ADW cleaner)

@BigMacca101 anti virus systems need deep system permissions to run. They themselves contain vulnerabilities. So by getting a third party AV, you are trading a chance at protection from system attacks for new attack vectors in the AV. I trust Windows defender because it's already part of the system, and I assume that MS knows the issues with windows better than a third party.

@linuxer4fun on linux you mostly erase your own files by an accident.

I once ran a scan on my Linux just to be sure not zo have any virus on it. (just to ensure I'm not foolish)

There was nothing except the offical MonoDevelop (which I didn't need anyway) and some Win-Viruses I had in my Downloads-Directory just because I wanted (and had) tested them in a Win7-VM which has Snapshots and is called "Virus-Victim".
