I dare you to show what sins you committed when you still were a newbie to programing.
Mine is below.11
You should just switch off your adblocker for one day....
... and see what blatant ads are available these days. 😡6
How about you started off with programming?
I'll start with a veery old picture of my first Java-Code I've written (if you can call it eben that). At that time I tried to code using a JS-Designer. Just hilarious. 😂😂😂9
DISCLAIMER: I'm not paid nor have I had any contact with any associates of the following software.
GET FUCKING VIVALDI!!!
This Browser has DAMN NICE MOUSE GESTURES!
You do them while holding right click.
For example right click held and swipe/moving the mouse to the left/right brings you backward/forward.
There are several others and you can make them by your self.
Just browsing anything. IT'S FUCKING DAMN FAST.
INSTALL VIVALDI AND ENABLE MOUSE GESTURES! After aprox 3 Days you won't want to have any other browser anymore.
(Could've just simply said that I love the browser because of that feature. But this is DevRANT!)17
In every programming language, your first goal usually is to write "Hello World".
Except for php. There "phpinfo();" is the equivalent of that.3
This one is more for the (surprisingly many) german folks here.
Explanation: Nobody would translate children to "Kinder" in the context of nodes in software.
The translation would be correct in the context of an ordinary family, but in software the translation of e.g. "Reply(s)" would be far more appropriate.15
TL;DR: My devices all hate me and I needed to fix them all.
My Devices really love me.
I rooted my smartphone (LG G5) just yesterday. Everything went fine. Installed TWRP, SuperSU and some nice Apps that utilize root.
Today I was on the go (at CeBIT) and already had the Xposed Installer App on my phone, but didn't attempt installing it yet because I needed my phone for Maps and Messaging and the app had given clear warning about the bricking-potential.
So to the end of the day I get bored, send my last important Messages, installed the Xposed Framework...
... aaaand got stuck in a boot loop.
So I got on my way back home (thanks God I remembered all the trains I needed to take). On the way I had a lot of fun in the Recovery-Terminal and figured that I should be able to fix my phone with no problem at home because the installer made backups (unlike myself).
Coming back home and my pc was still running (should've shut down after installing updates).
The pc behaved odd and I couldn't shut it down properly, which led to cutting the power.
And upon booting my pc I got a ... give it a guess ...
...a bootloop (technically the animation just never ended).
So after I fixed my phone with my spare laptop (just transferred and executed the uninstaller for xposed) I fixed my PC too, which had an old broken dkms-driver.
The odd thing about this is, that this isn't technically a rant. I guess you can confirm that you can't find any swear words.
Because I ENJOYED fixing the devices. I already fixed my pc a couple of times was well as unbricking my rooted phones, so there was fairly little research involved.
I guess I'm now offically twisted.
Now, after my smartphone backups are transferred, I'Ll take my device apart and replace the camera glass which arrived today (and hope, no pray, that my sim card does still work after that)...
... after I blatendly copied a meme to get more attention. 😉3
Everybody keeps complaining about people who center content (expecially in websites) not appropriately.
So I'm just watching the WWDC 2018 (never watched one before and don't own any iDevice) and see the new aproach on Apple News.
So, "centering is ugly" is out and instead "gorgeous".
Have to admit, that this does indeed look nice. Just funny when centering content often embodies bad design choices.2
"You have to change your password, because you've either just registred or your password doesn't comply with our guidelines anymore."
I've not made my account recently.
The question beeing: How can they know if they "should" decently hash it? 👿9
Just funny to see how a lot of campanies send emails because of their changed privacy policies.
Some explain it to you and are quite pleasing (e.g. Tapatalk), but most are quite neutal about it and add sugarcoated reasons for updating their policies (besides that they're forced by law).
Quite funny to watch how every coorp explains the same thing in their way.
Maybe we can make this post into a collection of funny, weird or otherwise remarkable mails regarding this policy update.
Image: Some of those mails and the content of the Tapatalk one:1
Tomorrow are is my final exam in english (I'm a german).
So what did I do today?
Learning...? A bit.
RegEx...? Heck yea!9
U've seen one dev creating Java-Classes like 'GetLevel' which contain only one method that is called 'getLevel'. And it wasn't even a static method.4
What were your survial strategies in school to keep other students/teachers from thinking your hacking something?
Mine was this (pretty ugly but worked):9
When you say to a non-techy: "This is complex."
Meaning: "I don't want to spend my time explaining this to you" / "I don't care".1
When I downloaded a virus that turned out to be a troll. It spawned some windows with 'Trololololo...' flashed blue and red and jumped random on the screen while playing troll music.
Closing one window would lead to that window beeing duplicated.
When I got into coding, one of my first projects was a recreation of this.1
- Finish own blogging website (Vue/Flask as front/back-end)
- Improve my recently published Android App
- Learn ML (have a book for it)
- Maybe start learning Go or Rust
I guess that is way to optimistic but point 2 & 3 should be enough for 2018.
BUT there is also the real world:
- Graduating school
- Start studying.
So this is me for 2018 (at least the first half of it):5
When you're tuning the Frame-Color for the devranton application, accidentally apply it globally and it kinda looks nice:13
I'm still performing the sin that got me into my first real programming language:
Bukkit Plugins ...13
