2erXre524957yAt my time we learnt networking and network security (DNS, IP, firewalling, proxy, SSL, VPN, PKI) with linux, and it was in university of applied sciences. No distro stuff in fact, we didn't learn how to install, but besides of that we leant a lot in exercises in the lab.

How to setup a desktop/server, using lamp, compiling software, those kinda things :)

@wiredgecko Back in 2001 we did UNIX and we had learnt bash commands and vim. Nothing complicated. 🙂

mt3o19137yBash, vi, filesystem layout, interprocess communication, tcp, awk... And if course installing,compiling, building and running different projects/languages/technologies/packages, of course not by ready made scripts but with ./configure
