I'm moving to a standing desk soon and I'm already loving it even though I having used it. If you're going to be sitting I would recommend getting a good chair. Or get one of those back support pillows for the chair, a good one.

I have hyper-extensive ligament syndrome, so it gets pretty bad for me.
As people have said above, external monitors, keyboard and mouse are the best. Never used a standing desk so I can't comment on them.
Usually if it's really bad I end up going to my Osteomyopath and get him to put my joints back in the right place and get rid of the muscle spasms. -

mhudson12939yYoga. Also: look into some ergo equipment. You can't eliminate all of the strain and stress, but you can minimize a bunch of it.
