Just upgraded my company's ecommerce site to the latest versions of everything and nothing broke.
I don't trust it.5 -
Ever find when you're working on a personal project that you spend more time trying to think of good names for classes than actually writing code?6

One of the best things about having a basic knowledge of mechanical engineering, and access to shop floor tools.
I don't have to pay for stuff like docking stations 👌7 -
Just looked at my emails for the first time since 23rd (self imposed blackout to get some rest) and found an email chain from a co-worker and a client.
At 5.30pm on Fri 23rd (half an hour after our usual quitting time) we got an email from a client who has taken 2 years to write content for their 10-page website, asking us if we could push the website live.
My colleague succinctly replied with "No. Best Regards, [name]" and then replied to just the company with a photo of him grinning and holding a beer.

Bruteforce IRL
So I recently bought my first house (yay!).
Whilst doing the initial viewings I saw the below on the backyard and thought "hey that's neat, I can leave a key in there for when I come in late and my fiancée is asleep.
Fast forward to moving in day and the previous owners hand me the keys so I ask "oh yeah, what's the code for the keysafe" and he just looks at me completely blank, so I'm just like "the box on the wall out back" and he's just like "oh! So that's what that is. No we've never had the code for that, bye."
Being a pen tester I'm just stood there dumbfounded thinking "How the hell can you have a locked box attached to your house and not want to know what is inside!"
Anyway, that brings us to now where I'm stood outside in December on a Sunday morning brute forcing my way into my own keysafe.
I wish this didn't run so many parallels with my work life 😂58 -
Needed some cash, someone asked if I knew anyone who made websites. Took the job and I haven't looked back since.4

Just interested to see what kinds of cars we favour.

Company is hiring a new PM (the first one, to allow me, the only dev, to concentrate on developing and not dealing with client crap) and I'm being allowed in on the vetting process.
Background: we maintain quite a few WordPress ecommerce sites, so part of the job spec was to be familiar with WordPress environments and the codebase, and that they have a least 3 years of PM experience.
1st phone interview: I'm an experienced WordPress developer, been doing it for 5 years.
Me: oh cool, can you show us examples of themes, plugins, and extensions you've created?
Guy: oh, no, I just install pre-made stuff.
Me: ...

Cheating and using Arch-anywhere for my first foray into Arch after 3 hours of manual confit and computer failing over.4

Mainly for freelancers: Don't be afraid to take on projects you know nothing about. You can learn whilst doing the job, plus you're getting paid for it.

Cheap laptops for running Kali/Arch? Will be used for learning penetration testing.
Was thinking an older Lenovo Thinkpad or something like that?2 -
Having to sit and explain the difference between json and jsonp to a graphic designer and and SEO manager

If you ever want to make a LAMP stack developer cry, just tell him he's got to work with NGINX and PostgreSQL.13

When the client you're working for decides to swap the hosting for the CRM integrated site you're working on with no warning... for the second time in the project.

When you set up your first ever personal Apache server built on a raspberry pi and everything works first time, and you feel like a god for this tiny achievement :D2

Misunderstood badly worded client email -> 4 hours of coding that's actually completely redundant
