They said "don't worry about polishing working code" but rejected me for leaving in commented out code?
-
I gotta make a portfolio project of my own so all those company bitches can look at something instead of making me spend time on their bullshit
-
Now that I think of it I was probably rejected before even doing the assignment because I only exchanged emails with the HR person (no devs) and I asked a couple clarification questions that were never answered. Good thing I didn't spend my Sunday on those fuckers.
-
Assignment said I could use a UI library so I did but then they complained I copy pasted code instead of making my own design system. Bitch you want a design system, you explicitly ask for a design system, I ain't making one for some todo project
-
@devRancid Yeah the mention of making a design system for a throwaway project is sketchy
-
Sounds similar to a place I applied for. The guy emailing me couldn't even keep the numbers in his bullet list for the specs consistent. Then gave me some ridiculous reasons for why they rejected me... like coding style? 🤣
It wasn't a complicated project! I didn't know it could have a style!
Then he suggested I sign up to "weekly HTML" newsletters ???
Oof
In my opinion if people are this disorganized you've dodged a bullet. If they can't even interview their management is going to be a disaster, and everything else downhill from that -
@kobenz I'm not saying that my code was perfect. It was shit but not for the reasons they rejected me. For example they could criticize me for not adding unit tests even though it was in the requirements.
-
@kobenz Yeah I fell for that like a noob sucker. In prod code I have lint rules to catch stuff like that.
-
@Nanos Dunno if you're sarcastic or not :D But usually you are very literal in your replies
-
@jsframework9000 so they sent outright accusations of copy pasting? They would probably be shitty to work for. I kinda like take homes, they’re better than leetcode but sometimes you have to guess what they want out of your code if they don’t want to be open to questions
-
I got rejected once because I used event sourcing in my solution and the hiring manager had no idea what that was.
-
Update: So I saw this company advertising the position I applied for. Said that it was remote only in France. When I applied they said it was remote all over Europe. So there's the reason they rejected me 🤷♂️
Just got rejected for BS reasons after handing in an assignment. Just tell me you found someone better, it's not a crime.
