One of the soulless parasitic drones commonly referred to as a "recruiter" happened to find a good fit. Pure coincidence, as he had no clue what the company did, or what the tech stack was.

If I'm ever switching again, I'll do it on my own. Just thinking about the fact that this guy pocketed €30k for 3 phone calls makes me sad.

    @g-m-f @Bitwise Their business model is siphoning money by rotating people through the industry.

    If that meant that people efficiently got shuffled into better matching positions, they would add some value.

    But their technical knowledge is usually nonexistent, and after they get their money (usually 1-3 months after placement), they often immediately try to poach up the developer again.

    We can fight this:

    From developer side by building good networks of "real" coworkers, sourced from previous employers, people met at conferences, etc; And by clearly and honestly communicating what we value about employers and how we envision our careers.

    And from the company side, the recruiter role should lay in part with dev teams themselves, it could be something a product owner or tech lead does, together with HR. Organize hackathons, send devs to relevant tech conferences so they can expand networks, and reward them royally for referrals. I'd rather pay a €10k bonus to a dev of our own...
