It appears my website is under attack. This truly sucks! I can’t login to it to update. Someone is attacking it and now I feel like an idiot and am very upset.

@Demolishun I wholeheartedly agree! My site is just my playground. Sheesh. The attack has let up now and I don’t see anything on the server but it was unresponsive

If you can log in to the server backend, try shutting off the webserver service and banning the IPs causing the problems. That will at least give you a breather.

@cuddlyogre I’m on a shared hosting situation - hostgator. I wish I could find an old school hosting company

@cr8zycatcodr I use DigitalOcean for my personal stuff, but I also like doing things the hard way. The lowest tier is $4 a month so it is very affordable.

Good to know, so you're fucked when attacked on shared hosting.

If not shared, I would advise to use caddy with ratelimiting

@cr8zycatcodr hostgator is shit. They will try and scam you. They are part of the EIG network. Read up on that. Never use any company in that network, ever. Godaddy is also getting scammy.

I use crocweb (irony) and they are not part of the EIG network.

Also EIG changed their name to something else. But you should be able to get info about their shit practices.

@Demolishun yeah I left GoDaddy because they were going to crap. I’ve been looking for a good hosting company so I’ll check out your recommendation! Thank you! I used to run my own server in rack space but it was too much - had an email bomber come attack me etc.

@Nanos she has put her cat in a hamsterwheel recently

Maybe linking it here was a mistake after all. I wouldn't be surprised if the attacker found the link from here.

@Nanos love it! When my dad left the planet in 1998 and my community was the first to test broadband, I made his old 496 into a Linux box. I had no idea what I was doing but I learned. It was not only my web server back in the day when isps didn’t cap your upload speed but I also had it doing up masquerading since you couldn’t go get a router for $20 and we wanted all of our computers online

@electrineer hate to say it but it crossed my mind. Took down the link
