Anyone here skateboard? Now that I'm about to get some free time, I'd like to learn. I used to skateboard when I was 10 (like decades lol) but would to get back on again. I had one of those small ones that looks like a surfboard (I think they're called mini-cruisers).

Get a helmet. I used to blade all the time. The stories I heard of people who skate getting brain damage was sickening.

Thanks! I don't plan on doing any tricks. At my age, my bones are possibly to fragile anyways. I just want to cruise.

@fruitfcker last time I bladed I had to relearn some balance. So just not falling down can be a trick.

@Alexanderr that's what I bought! Waiting for the shipment to arrive.

@fruitfcker with your handle I would've thought you would be a fruit booter and not ride a gay tray.

@Demolishun who knows. Maybe I'm both.

I used to skate and rollerblade back in the day. I recently tried one of these twisty skateboards (ripskate are they called?).

If you only want to cruise around those seem more effective than plain old boards.

See I'm late to the party but for cruising a longboard is better.

@hjk101 I'll try that once I get my balance sorted out. What brand of longboard is suitable?

@Alexanderr they are fun and the larger wheels make them way better than a trick board but due to the limited space (influences stance) and zero flex not really suitable for real cruising imo.

@fruitfcker it's like picking a snowboard or skis. Your length, weight, style and personal preference matter and not really the brand. As long as you avoid the supermarket crap brands of course.
If possible I would advice you to go to a shop to try a bunch.
I have a Loaded Tantien (top brand but very expensive) and a longer Gravity board.

Read some reviews and don't get distracted by things like super high abec ratings

    Get a helmet, @fruitfcker.
    Like @Demolishun said.

    It's not tricks or anything.
Like in climbing, it doesn't just protect you from your own idiocy, but from falling rocks too. In your case, other boarders, bikers, skaters and gravity, my arch enemy.
    GRAVITY! ONE DAY I'LL GETCHA!
