@jpichardo oh that explains it, I wasn't around yet last April 1st lol
-
So what problem does semicolon.js solve exactly? The website for it is pretty vague and abstract
-
This explains that exact phenomenon, it's called the Peter Principle:

Take a look at PhantomJS, you can build a link scraper in maybe 10 lines of code with it
-
It may fall under misuse of company property so be careful
-
@demiko you could always use the editor of your choice and then throw in a vim plugin. I used to use vim exclusively but at some point switched to atom+vim and I love it, it's like the best of both worlds
-
Nice one!!!
-
So really you just want to make an HTML parser/renderer?
-
@theScientist I actually follow Elliot on Medium, he's one of the main reasons that I've become interested in functional programming
-
@theScientist Oh wow, I guess I do use JS somewhat functionally then, I have to really look into all of this more. Is the nature of javascript's prototypal inheritance functional at all?
-
@theScientist Would calling functions as an argument and callbacks be considered functional? And that sounds awesome I'll definitely check it out, thanks a lot
-
@demiko What do you mean? JS can be written either procedurally or functionally, I know that it's not a functional language, but it can be written like one to some degree, I'm just used to using it procedurally and so I want to learn a purely functional language, really just to gain the additional mindset, I'm sure there's some problems out there that are better solved using a functional language so I think understanding the basic concepts could be useful at some point
-
@theScientist It's not a strictly functional language so it doesn't force me to learn functional paradigms as strongly as I'd like, when I say it doesn't count as a functional language I'm comparing it to a language like haskel, JavaScript CAN be written and used functionally, but it's not a purely functional language by design
-
@julymarval Thanks, I'll definitely give it a shot then
-
Is golang a functional language and would you recommend it? I've been meaning to learn a functional language since all of my experience is with OOP/imperative, the small amount of functional experience I have comes from JS which I don't think really counts for much
-
So what's the link?
-
Atom with material UI, solarized dark syntax highlighting, and bitstream vera sans mono font, which is literally the best font for coding, I set most of my stuff to that
-
Why not start working on a personal project on the side or contribute to some open source during your spare time, after work etc? Those two things will stand out quite a bit more on your resume than a Udacity cert, and you can start right away, no need to wait until you finish the internship
-
@Tribex I'm usually pretty big on customization but I'll def take a look, what's it based on? Debian etc
-
@Tribex Never heard of deepin but I'll look into it, you ever use openbox? I love that the only menu in it is a right click menu, you get the pros of a menu without taking up the space of one
-
@Tribex How do you like i3? I've been using arch + dwm for about a year and a half now and while I do like it a lot I've been considering switching to a different tiling wm, mostly just to mix things up
-
Arch dual boot, it'll force you to learn quick sink or swim style because you'll probably lose access to windows in the process the first time you install, from that point you'll be forced to learn just to get back in
-
@Orionss Clearly he should have curled it into a file and scanned that file in, that's what a real programmer would have done
-
It's always painful when you finally get your cherry picked
-
Those scripts should ideally be at the bottom of the body as well

@droptables I find it impossible these days to not notice and often complain about poor UI/UX, basic functionality that you would expect to exist often doesn't, even on some of the major players out there, like no close all apps button on an iPhone
