@Demolishun no, but it was regex :P
-
Maybe I will look into it then, the UI is kinda slow and convoluted in my experience so it would be nice to have desktop integration
-
@Kaivo that jira script sounds awesome :D do you have a like to that stuff?
-
@robsbobs thanks for the feedback guys.
my contact at the company said she will still try to arrange meetings with clients so maybe ill get lucky and start sooner, but if she said its unlikely to work out idk if I can rely on that.
I can indeed take the offer and still look for other jobs, but is that something you do? It seems like a pretty dick move tbh, but practically speaking its very convenient for me (ᗒᗣᗕ) -
What is this CoC for tho? Us it meant to be a template?
-
Also this is not really related but: i really wanna get into Sys admin/DevOps is possible, and my friend says its a terrible idea because you have a lot of responsibilities (which is true tbf), and that i should look more towards developer jobs.
I just got out of university so i don't really have much professional experience. He says DevOps is something you do after some years of development, but i have seen several ads for DevOps graduate of junior positions so i think there might still be a chance.
Should i give up on this and look more towards dev work? I'd gladly do Sys admin. for free for a while if its about getting my foot in the door. -
Also idk if its just me but I think I have some sort of technical debt to my rice: I could switch, but then all the hours I spent customizing my setup feel kinda wasted since I would have to start over :D
-
I have the opposite issue lol, my rice repo has been sitting on github with no substantial change in like 3 months; I likes ricing and I wanna add stuff but really there is not much I could meaningfully improve :D
I guess I'm at that point where I should just switch wms -
I usually listen to Linux/sysadmin podcasts, Jupiter Broadcasting has some good ones. I also listen to some history ones, mainly Isaac Mayer's History of japan podcast
-
Man this whole ordeal is such a shitshow, i had no idea he resigned from the FSF as well...
Its sad to see him ousted from the foundation he created, i understand MIT firing him but this seems a bit much...
That said RMS brought this onto himself, he should really learn to keep some opinions to himself: he's always been a weirdo, but its far better for everyone if he sticks to talking exclusevy about software. -
Ok thanks, just wanted to make sure i dont accidentally annoy people by sending them encrypted enails they can't open
-
@stop both of those look pretty good, i am not sure however what happens when i send email to normal people (a.k.a people without encrypted email): can i choose to send the message either in cleartext or encrypted? and if it is encrypted, how are they gonna see it?
-
@Conrad k+m is actually quite usable once you re-bind the mouse Y axis to Yaw, its pretty good :D
Also you can use an xbox gamepad if you have one of those -
@terraria99 Welcome to the galaxy cmdr, don't forget to pick up your free Anaconda at Hutton Orbital! o7
-
@fuckwit Rust looks really intersting i have to say, whats your experience with it compared to C? Is it a straight upgrade or just different?
Also ugh scripting in bash, why brother? Why? :P -
I would take python anyday above fucking javascript thats for sure :D the white space might be quuirky but at least it makes sense and its well structured.
-
@GlitterUnicorn i like python syntax for one, and the simplicity of the language allows me to code something really fast with more tools at my disposal than bash or similar gives me (bash scripting syntax is a crime againt humanity tbh)
That said i wouldn use it for everything, for big projects its nice to have the structure, speed and reliability of a statically typed and compiled language.
Dont have much to say about Java, its a bit of a relic but it works and at least its not made by MS  -
Im a simple man: i see Chika, i upvote :D
-
@Linux it was 3.2 or 3.3 i rekon, i saw them at the time. I won't comment on the game itself, but CIG's business practices don't look much vetter than major publishers to me...
-
@Linux land claims and the legatus pack.
Juat saying 😏
CIG is not exactly a paragon of virtue, are they?
The game looks amazing but when u zoom out you realize its a jpeg factory -
...not that it matters now since i can't use it for the time being
-
@irene main reason is because VR, and because i wanted something that was future proof. I rarely do upgrades, whatever i get needs to last 3-5 years.
But i am a noob at this (as you can clearly see) so idk  -
Custom OSs you say? That sounds very interesting... :)
-
@Stocken i see you are a man of culture as well :)
-
@Michelle its pretty neat once you know what you want from yor distro, i tried it a couple times. I am the exact opposite of you tho, i have been using mint for a couple years now and i'm too lazy to switch :D
-
This one time i had to interface with a usb barcode scanner to read data from it, and i started researching the USB protocol and writing a python script to hook into the usb kernel module (i was working on linux). it was fun at first but then i got terribly stuck and after a week of pointless attempts i went to my friend to admit defeat and ask for help. I was pretty proud of how far along i got though. I go there and i explain the code to him, he just stares at me in utter confusion and says "dude this thing acts as a usb keyboard. You could have just read input from stdin and it would have worked!" 😂 i don't i have ever face-palmed so hard in my life :D
-
I did the same with latex a while back, we were writing our CS report at university and they wanted to do it in google docs :D it really helped in the end but i didnt get a word of thanks, in fact they kept complaining untill the end :D
-
Nice :D are you crawling youtube?
-
My problem is that the code is complete spaghetti held toghether with spit, i am not familiar with the libraries im using so im learning as i go XD
-
Yeah thats right, i need to check that out one if these days
